
frances benjamin johnston was more known for her images of celebrities of her time period, more predominately politicians.
She is also credited for her vast array of architectural work in and around Washington D.C.
However, some of her lesser known work deals more with the politics of being a woman in the late 1800s. She uses herself and her friends in her images to poke fun of the male ideal- and show those who view her images that a female can be something more than what is expected.
